| KXPZ 99.5 FM was purchased by Bravo Mic Communications in March of 2006. Like its sister station 101 Gold, it is a 100,000 watt FM, but that's where the similarities end. Reflecting on Southern New Mexico's history and the excitement to this day surrounding space travel, it seemed a natural to choose call letters that reflect the fact that the X Prize (XPZ) has come to Las Cruces, and The Rocket 99.5 was born. The station's format, contemporary rock, is new to the market and is attracting a lot of attention from NMSU students, Holloman Air Force Base, White Sands Missile Range and even Fort Bliss in El Paso. It blends hard rock hits from Disturbed and Godsmack with alternative choices like Beck and Incubus. Favorites from Stone Temple Pilots, Metallica, and Nirvana give it a base. There are no Disc Jockeys on 99.5, which has been overwhelmingly appreciated by its listeners, but they can log on to a very interactive website where they can see the Blast 20 which is the last 20 songs played. They can also share their comments, good or bad, for all to see. The Rocket fan of the month has taken off and gives the station a chance to showcase its loyal listeners in a very entertaining way.
